THE BREAK-UP PLAN

The Break-Up Plan is a twist on the classic romantic comedy. Instead of a guy trying to get a girl or a girl trying to get a guy, the premise of this story is how to perfectly execute a break-up without hurting the other person. That’s the problem Emma finds herself in as she and her best friend, Chloe, hatch a plan to end Emma’s relationship with Ryan. Ryan is a nice guy, and Emma acknowledges that, but he can sometimes be too nice for his own good and it leaves Emma no choice but to leave him so she can feel more independent.

Chloe is the voice of reason and pushes Emma to do the thing that’s best for her, but Emma doesn’t want to come off as the bad person by making Ryan feel hurt. Because of this, Emma beats around the bush throughout the course of the story, looking for every possible reason to delay the inevitable break-up. Emma tries everything from talking to him up front to baking him a “break-up” cake just so that he won’t feel as upset, but due to some unfortunate distractions, Emma can’t get up the courage to see her plans through.

After some carful thinking over the course of her baking, Emma realizes that she has to just get over with as quickly as possible and not wait any longer for the right opportunity to present itself. Unfortunately for Emma, she may have waited a little too long, and now has to accept the surprise Ryan has waiting for her.
